Craigslist Moving to Paid for More Categories on 12/1/2016

Craigslist recently announced that starting Thursday, December 1, 2016 ads posted to the following categories will now require payment to post ads.

  • ATV, UTVs, Snowmobiles – $5
  • Auto Wheels and Tires – $3
  • Boats – $5
  • Farm and Garden – $3
  • General for Sale – $3
  • Heavy Equipment – $5
  • Trailers – $5

Earlier this month, we shared that Craigslist is charging $5 for Motorcycle and RV ads, but now they’re charging for these additional categories, as well. We also shared that it was not suggested to post your inventory to non-relevent Craigslist categories to avoid the listing fee. However, that strategy is now no longer applicable because of this newest announcement.

Dealers should look at this as an opportunity and not a marketplace to ignore. Now that payment is required, spam is eliminated as well as flagging and ghosting. Dedicating a budget to Craigslist will help your dealership drive traffic because it legitimizes the marketplace and will weed out dealers who decide to post post ads.
